Dirt Music - Tim Winton

After discovering some shared tastes in literature with a friend from work, we've begun swapping books. Dirt Music by Tim Winton was the first and what a way to begin! This story had me in full distraction for the few days it took to race through it. The story is set in western Australia and is centered around a few characters fumbling through lives that no longer make sense.
What I enjoyed most about the book was Winton's ability to recreate the sense of geography and local culture. The weather, climate, and surroundings (as much a part of the story as any of the characters) drive the narritive and really gives a sense of experiencing a place without having ever been there. Winton knows this part of Australia and it comes through in his writing.
